First Look – Ski-Doo 2014 600RS Racer

Posted on May 8, 2013 by admin

In February, following the Grand Prix de Valcourt, ISOC Pro Open racer Tim Tremblay stayed in his native Quebec to race a couple of local events on an early production model of the new Ski-Doo RS. We talked to him following the events and he said it was the best stock sled he has ever ridden. Not surprising, since the 2014 MX ZX 600 RS has undergone continuous development over the last two years that is a direct result of technology improved through competition on the ISOC national tour.

Check out this list of features that have trickled down from the hand-built mod sleds of top teams such as Scheuring Speed Sports and Warnert Racing.

2014 SKI-DOO MX ZX 600RS – Sneak Peek

Valcourt, QC May 7, 2013 – The Valcourt Race Shop team is working hard this summer to finalize snowmobile configurations in preparation for the coming season. While it will be September before all the final specs are released on the 2014 MXZ x 600RS race sled, a few general things are known and can be shared.

Leighton Motorsports Forms Pro Lite Superteam

Posted on April 24, 2013 by admin

EAGLE, Idaho (April 24, 2013) East Coast Snocross Pro Champion Corin Todd and ISOC Sport Champion Zak Mason have joined top-ranked ISOC Pro Lite rookie Trevor Leighton, to form a three point attack on the 2013-14 ISOC Pro Lite championship.

Twenty year-old Todd of Malone, New York captured the 2013 ECS championship riding a Polaris for the Bailey/Hulten team and will be relocating to the Midwest for his first full effort on the AMSOIL Championship Snocross tour. Eighteen year-old Mason of Gaylord, Michigan also captured his national championship riding a Polaris and will be moving to Minnesota, along with his father and mechanic Rob, as he makes his debut as a Pro Lite rider this fall.

At the conclusion of the 2013 season, Leighton Motorsports set forth a unique plan to focus their efforts on the Pro Lite class, much in the same way Pro Circuit has done in motocross racing. “Right after the X Games, crew chief Ray Hulten and I started talking about how we wanted to move forward long-term,” said Trace Leighton. “We decided to step away from the Pro Open class for now and really focus on the Pro Lite class next year. We want to develop the next wave of Polaris stars and the Pro Lite concept is just the first step. This is the first time Corin and and Zak will be supported by a factory-backed team and we want to keep these guys on our team and on Polaris for the next 10 years.”

“All three of these guys have a similar demeanor and strong work ethic that will help drive each other to be their best. We know that our toughest competition will come from within the team and that’s what we want.”

To accommodate the new lineup, which will still include two-time Women’s Pro-Am Champion Jennifer Pare, the Fly Racing/Bully Dog-backed team has purchased the former Blair Morgan Racing trailer with multiple slide-outs and added work space.

After winning the season finale and finishing runner up in Pro Lite points, Andy Lieders is out of a ride.

Silly Season Leaves Andy Lieders In Limbo

Posted on April 16, 2013 by admin

Now that the game of musical chairs is coming to an end, 2013 Pro Lite runner-up Andy Lieders has found himself without a seat. Lieders, a long-time Polaris hotshoe who has been a part-time hired gun for a number of top level teams, just capped his most successful season ever while riding for the Leighton Motorsports team. With Leighton’s moving a new direction with a younger, all Pro-Lite lineup, Lieders is once again looking for a ride.

We spoke to Kevin Lieders recently and while Polaris did offer the team some support in the form of equipment, he noted that Andy feels that if he can’t line up a ride in one of the bigger trailers, he may not be able to continue racing next season. With the level of time and commitment it takes to run at the front of the Pro Lite and Pro Open classes, Lieders feels it is too much to handle on his own.

Lieders’ desire would be to stay on a Polaris but is starting to explore other opportunities.

Supercross – Minneapolis

Posted on April 14, 2013 by admin

AMA Supercross returned to the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the first time in 5 years on Saturday night, where home state hero Ryan Dungey put in the ride of the year to pass championship point leader Ryan Villopoto for the win.

Among the near capacity crowd on hand to witness the great on-track action was a large portion of the AMSOIL Championship Snocross contingent. The AMSOIL hospitality tent in the pit area was packed full of familiar faces including most of the AMSOIL-backed Scheuring Speed Sports and Judnick Motorsports teams. Several other racers and crews were seen milling around the pits and ISOC Pro Open champ Tucker Hibbert, was interviewed on the Sunday television broadcast over a background of snocross action footage from the 2013 season.

Minneapolis Supercross – Preview and Animated Track Map

Posted on April 9, 2013 by admin

Supercross returns to Minni for the first time in five years. Who’s coming out to watch hometown hero Ryan Dungey go for his second win of the season in the house that McGrath built?

With Five Consecutive Wins, Villopoto Inches Closer to Third Straight Title as Monster Energy Supercross Returns to Minneapolis
Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship Reaches Penultimate Race

AURORA, Ill. (April 8, 2013) – Despite winning the title in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, for the past two seasons, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto has never experienced the sort of dominance he’s carrying in to Saturday’s first visit to Minneapolis since the 2008 season. The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome will be the sight of the 14th race of the championship, which will signify the highly anticipated return of the world’s fastest riders to the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.”

Broadcast coverage of the 450SX Class can be seen via next-day coverage on CBS, beginning at 12 noon EST. Coverage of the 250SX Class can be seen on SPEED at 4:30 p.m. EST.

Media day is Thursday, April 11, from Noon-2:00 p.m., featuring Red Bull KTM riders Ryan Dungey, a Minnesota native, and Marvin Musquin. Additionally, MyPlash/Metal Mulisha/Star Yamaha rider Jeremy Martin, a Minnesota native, will be on hand.

During his two championship-winning efforts in 2011 and 2012, Villopoto captured a total of six and nine races, respectively. However, prior to last Saturday night Villopoto had never won more than four races consecutively. This past weekend in Houston, Villopoto led all 20 laps of the Main Event to win his fifth straight race and extend his points lead to 21 points over Rockstar Energy Racing’s Davi Millsaps.

“Getting five in-a-row is incredible,” said Villopoto, who now has a class-leading eight wins this season. “We’ve come a long way since Anaheim and have constantly improved to the point where we are now on top. The field is so close that you really need to have everything dialed in order to win and we’ve been able to do that these past few weeks.”

The victory continues a dominant second half of the season for Villopoto, who faced a 27-point deficit in the championship following the sixth race of the season. Since then, Villopoto has won six of the last seven races with a worst finish of second, resulting in a virtually unbeatable 1.14 finishing average. Villopoto has outscored Millsaps, who led the championship for the first nine races of the season, by a 48-point margin over his impressive seven-race stretch, which now puts him into a comfortable position in the standings heading into the final month of competition. Villopoto has the opportunity to equal his career-best season win total of nine on Saturday night in Minneapolis.

Villopoto’s most formidable challenger over the last seven races, and again in Houston, was Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey. The former champion still sits third in the championship standings, but has moved to within four points of Millsaps for second. His runner-up effort in Houston extended his current podium streak to four races, giving him a total of nine podium finishes this season. Dungey now sits 25 points behind Villopoto heading into what is arguably his most anticipated race of the season.

A native of Belle Plaine, Minn., Dungey grew up mere minutes outside of Minneapolis. The Monster Energy Supercross race inside the Metrodome was attended regularly by the Dungey family and it also served as the sight of a breakout performance for the KTM rider who stole a surprise runner-up finish during the 2008 race during a guest appearance in the 450SX Class. This marks the championship’s first visit to the state since that memorable night for Dungey.

Since winning his second race of the season at the sixth stop of the championship, Millsaps has experienced the ups and downs that comes with racing for a title. Through the first eight races of the season Millsaps averaged a second-place finish. Since then, he has finished on the podium once and his average finished has dropped to 5.4 over the past five races. In Houston, Millsaps had to overcome getting caught up in an incident on the opening lap of the race, eventually battling his way from ninth to fifth.

The trio of riders has separated themselves from the rest of the 450SX Class field in the standings and the championship will likely be won by one of them. While 25 points separate Villopoto, Millsaps, and Dungey, 50 points sit between Dungey and Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia in fourth.

The last time Monster Energy Supercross visited Minneapolis in 2008, Dodge/Sycuan/RCH Racing Suzuki’s Josh Hill broke through for his first career victory, fending off Dungey and his home crowd push.

The Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship welcomed its fourth different winner in Houston as Rockstar Energy Racing’s Blake Wharton captured his third career victory with an impressive performance. After grabbing the early lead, Wharton gave up the position to Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musqin on the opening lap, but fought back to reclaim the position a lap later and lead the final 14 laps of competition.

“We had a weekend off with Easter, but I trained and did my thing,” said Wharton. “There’s no rest even with a weekend off; these guys are riding good. It’s the first win of the season for me. It was a little slower than I’d like to have done it, but it’s a win and it’s Houston, which is always awesome.”

In his attempt to track Wharton down again and resume the battle for the lead, Musquin lost control in the whoops and careened off the track, giving up second place to GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn. Musquin carried a three-race winning streak into Houston, but saw his hopes of continuing that streak come to an end with the incident.

Hahn closed to within a wheel of Wharton and made multiple attempts to pass for the lead. The pair battled for several laps, bringing the crowd to its feet. Several mistakes by Hahn in the duo’s heated battle ultimately prevented him from making the pass, but his runner-up finish maintained Hahn’s distinction as the only rider in the Eastern Regional Championship to finish on the podium in every race.

Musquin held on to the third position, but now sits eight points behind Hahn in the championship standings. Wharton, who sits third, moved to within 23 points of Hahn.

Only two races remain in the Eastern Regional Championship, but the return to Minneapolis will be lead into a two-week break from competition before the season finale in Las Vegas. The rider able to gain an edge in Minneapolis will have much needed momentum heading into the last race of the year.

The last 250SX Class race in Minneapolis in 2008 saw Villopoto edge out Josh Grant for the win. It was Villopoto’s first win of that season and led to a three-race winning streak en route to finishing second in the championship.

Posted on April 1, 2013 by admin

Tucker Hibbert won his first two rounds of qualifying and managed a mechanical issue in round three, which enabled him to keep a seventh place gate pick in the Clash of Nations main event. Hibbert left the field at the start and was never challenged, putting a world-wide exclamation point on a season in which he dominated professional snocross racing.

Hibbert’s biggest threat came from fast-rising Swedish star Petter Narsa, who finished second and actually beat the champ in the one-lap Head-to-Head event on Thursday. Logan Christian rounded out the podium in a final that saw the top six spots filled by a mix of American and Swedish riders who were regular competitors on the ISOC tour in 2012-13.

In the Pro Stock division, Andrew Carlson opened the event with two first place finishes in qualifying but suffered a terrible leg injury in round three, dislocating his knee. Carlson is on his way back to the U.S. where he will undergo a full diagnosis.

Petter Narsa made a strong showing for the homeland, winning the Head-to-Head challenge and finishing second in the main event.

Corin Todd Wraps Up ECS Finale & Championship

Posted on March 28, 2013 by admin

MALONE, New York (Mar. 25, 2013) – New York native Corin Todd powered his machine to victory in the last Pro final of the season, securing the 2013 championship as East Coast Snocross (ECS) completed its season finale Saturday at the Titus Mountain Family Ski Center.

Todd (Bailey/Hulten Polaris), of Otego, passed Lemieux after the first of 14 laps and led to the finish. Lemieux (Lemieux Racing/Ski-doo) settled for second just a tick over three seconds back, while 2012 champion Danny Poirier (Bailey/Hulten Polaris) filled out the podium in third.

Friday evening’s Pro final was run under the lights at Titus, with Lemieux claiming the win to keep pressure on Todd in the points fight. Michigan native Kevin Wallenstein (Ingles Performance/Ski-doo) stepped up from Pro Lite to run second in an amazing effort, while Poirier was rock solid in third.

“When I slotted into third at the start of Saturday’s final, I knew I had to make a move quickly,” Todd said. “I made a first-lap pass into second going over the finish line, then found a good line going up the hill to pass Lincoln for the lead the very next lap. Once I got out front, I had a choice of lines and brought it on home. It was an honor to earn this title for Steve Bailey, Ray Hulten, Utica National Insurance and this entire team. To win the final race while securing the crown was picture-perfect.”

Having already locked up the Pro Lite crown didn’t seem to slow Mike Pilotte (Team Southside/Polaris) down at Titus. The accomplished ATV racer and now newly crowned snocross champ blasted to his 11th win of the season Friday night. Vermont sensation Leo Patenaude finished second after the 12-lap grind, while Montana Jess (Jess Racing/Arctic Cat) rode to a solid third.

Saturday’s contest produced a first-time winner, as Patenaude was the man to beat. Jess chased his weekly rival across the line in second, while Wallenstein settled for third. Jess locked up second place in the final point standings with another consistent weekend.

“This feels fantastic to win one of these races,” Leo said. “My dad has put so much effort into our program; he never stops working until things are just right and that paid off today. I want to thank my Dad for all he’s done, and I want to thank the whole Ingles team. I never could have done this  without their help. It was an uphill battle all season, but in the end we got it right.”

Leo’s younger brother Hunter has enjoyed a strong 2012-13 season in the ECS Sport classes. He was on top of his game once again in Malone, sweeping the Sport Super Stock finals to clinch both titles. Highlights of Sport action at Titus Mountain include fifth and second place efforts for Junior champ Cody Paolella. The finale also saw the return of Connor Roscoe (daSilva Racing/Ski-doo) to action, picking up a solid third place finish on Saturday.

“What a great feeling to lock up the Sport championship,” Hunter said. “I told my Dad at the start of the season it was my goal, and we made it happen. It would not have been possible without the support of Ingles Performance, my sponsors and entire family. It was a team effort, and I am so happy to be part of it. What a fantastic way to end the season for Patenaude Racing.”

Other final round winners over the weekend include Nykea Williams (Pro Women Fri. & Sat.); Todd Smith (Pro Am, Plus 25/35 Fri.); Dustin Blockson (Plus 25/35 Sat.); Cody Paolella (Jr. 16-17 Friday); and Jake Bishop (Jr. 16-17 Saturday). Congratulations to all of our winners and podium finishers on a job well done.

ECS officials would like to thank the management and staff at Titus Mountain for hosting our series finale. Your fine facilty made an ideal venue for not only a big snowy track, but to service our fans and teams, as well. We hope we drew attention to one of the real gems of upstate New York.

Among notable highlights of the 2012-13 season in ECS was parity among manufacturuers. Arctic Cat (Derek Ellis); Ski-doo (Lemieux) and Polaris (Todd, Poirier) all earned wins in Pro action, while Jess (Cat); Wallenstein (Ski-doo) and Pilotte (Polaris) produced wins for their brands in Pro Lite. That’s an ideal situation that keeps fans of all three brands interested in ECS competition.

The overall success and strong competition in 2012-13 was made possible by support from a large family of marketing partners, led by valued prersenting sponsors  AMSOIL and Woody’s Traction. Along with these two fine companies, ECS officials would also like to thank Choko Design, Ingles Performance, daSilva Motorsports, New England Racing Fuels, Malibu Boats, EVS, AFX Helmets, C&A Pro Skis, HCP Designs and Street Diesel Performance. Your support of our series adds integrity and tremendous value to our product. We hope to have you all back with us again in 2014.

On behalf of series owners Eric Scott, Bob Roscoe and the entire staff at East Coast Snocross, have a safe and healthy off-season, and look for the 2013-14 schedule to be announced in mid-September.

Roost The Butte

Posted on March 27, 2013 by admin

Action sports promoter Joe Duncan is firing up a new  multi-discipline event set to take place this spring in Crested Butte, Montana. Here’s a note from Joe with all of the details for what could be a very cool new tradition:

Snowmobile racers, fans, enthusiast, industry, manufactures and any one with a snowmobile.

We as snowmobilers have passion and with that passion comes the desire to be a part of something unique, fun, creative and the next BIG thing.

We have created a charity event for the snowmobiler with multiple race events and snowmobile related entertainment for all.  As cool and exciting as this event is going to be there is a purpose that we as snowmobilers can appreciate. The profits from this event will be put into a fund and dispersed to snowmobilers and/or their families in the case of an unfortunate accident involving snowmobiling. A committee of Industry leaders will sit on the advisory board to disperse funds to applicants or unsuspected recipients.

With all that said lets tell you about the good stuff:

This event will host numerous snowmobile events, competitions, demo rides, vendor displays, movies, parties and awards.

The great thing is it all takes place at one Amazing venue, Crested Butte Mountain Resort. A ski area that believes in snowmobiling and its community. The original host to the 1st snocross racing at Winter X Games back in 1998.

New ownership has brought the place back to life and is allowing us the chance to build an event for snowmobilers of all types at this amazing location.
